Clinical Research & Trials

Studying the treatments before they reach general practice.

Our physicians have been involved in clinical trials and outcome studies in TMS, including work in adolescents, postpartum patients, and real-world settings. Our ongoing research covers novel therapies our patients can access here: Botox for psychiatric symptoms, ketamine, PRISM, and other forms of neuromodulation. We are on multiple National Network of Depression Centers (NNDC) task forces to help advance psychiatry.

Integrative Psychiatry conducted one of the first real-world studies on the effectiveness of transcranial magnetic stimulation in a private practice setting. The findings were published in the September 2011 Journal of the Kentucky Medical Association.

Our TMS program was one of 42 university and private-practice sites in a large real-world study of TMS. In that naturalistic, observational work, acute response and remission rates matched what earlier research populations had shown. We were a leading recruitment site for the TMS adolescent depression study.

Training the Next Generation

The physicians who teach interventional psychiatry.

Our doctors supervise and lecture residents and medical students, and they direct the interventional psychiatry course at the UofL department.

Doctors and students come to our practice to learn interventional psychiatry directly from our physicians. We train them with intensive, hands-on time with the treatments most academic centers describe in a lecture hall. If a physician in Kentucky is performing TMS today, there is a good chance someone here was part of their training.

National Affiliation

A seat at the national table.

We are affiliated with the University of Louisville Depression Center and work through the National Network of Depression Centers to bring current treatment options to our patients first. Our physicians sit on national task groups shaping how that care is delivered. Being in the room when the standards are written is how we keep our patients ahead of general practice.

Affiliations & Leadership

Service to the profession, locally and nationally.

Our physicians serve the community at home and the profession nationally. They hold memberships in the Clinical TMS Society, the American Psychiatric Association, the Kentucky Medical Association, the Greater Louisville Medical Society, the Southern Psychiatric Association, and the Kentucky Psychiatric Medical Association. Across these organizations they have served as presidents, chaired scientific committees, and sat on boards of trustees. Much of that work is advocacy: widening access to psychiatric care and expanding what patients can reach.
